Everybody lies – what the internet can tell us about who we really are

lies

  • cum iti influenteaza mediul in care ai crescut sansele de a reusi in viata
  • daca visele exprima sexualitatea reprimata
  • cum trebuie sa discutam despre rasism, astfel incat oamenii sa asculte
  • daca difuzarea unui film violent la cinema creste violenta in acea zona

Read and be happy 🙂

[EN] We are bombed by information everywhere and by a lot of studies and surveys related to what people say versus what people do. The problem is: do we know how to interpret them? Can we use them to figure out what people really want, things they do not recognize out of fear or shame, and can we prevent suicides, depressions or crimes?

I am glad that Seth Stephens-Davidowitz and Seth Stephens-Davidowitz asked the same questions and found answers that, in most cases, validated or invalidated hypotheses.

I was expecting this book to be full of empirical studies and empirical research, with technical words, and having to Google every tenth word. Fortunately, that was not the case.  The subject has captivated me from the beginning, there are things that make us all curious, and how he gets to the conclusions and interpretation of the results.

For me this was one of the books from which I even took something useful, which I intend to implement at work. And it made me feel less guilty for all the time I spend on Netflix. it seems to be their fault that they have discovered a perfect algorithm that recommends me exactly what I like.

If you’ve ever wondered:

  • why was Trump voted, although polls told us the contrary and people blamed him for propaganda resist
  • if relationships last longer when the two have a common group of friends
  • if  the environment you were raised it increases your chances of succeeding in life
  • which is the happiest day of the year (alert spoiler: Of course it’s Christmas day)
  • if dreams express repressed sexuality
  • if two people have a second meeting, depending on how their discussion took place at first
  • if men or women are more interested in the size of the penis
  • how we need to talk about racism so people can listen
  • if broadcasting a violent film at cinema increases violence in that area

Then you have to read the book that has the title of a House MD line.

If you liked it, I recommend:

Minority report – shows us a future where a special police unit is able to arrest murderers before they commit their crimes.

Read and be happy 🙂
